HELPING DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIIES (HELPING DC) promotes the idea of understanding and helping disadvantaged communities based of on a grassroot level approach of community leadership which comprises nine major steps. Built as a community development program, the approach seeks to provide training and counseling in communities on the basis of the nine steps.
As a reminder, the approach of HELPING DC is known as the "Pedagogy of the Mayor of K street". This approach is born from the experience of Walter Holmes, an African American man who lost his beloved son due to violence in his neighborhood. The dearest wished of Walter Holmes has always been to see the youth of all communities quit violence and value education as the pathway of success in life.
Issoufou Ouattara is the President and founder of Helping Disadvantaged Communities. He holds a certicate of completion in Strategy Execution for Public Leadership from Harvard University and a PhD candidacy in education from Kansas State University. For over 20 years, he has been passionately and actively serving in the global humanitarian field where he initiated projects to help change, for the best, the lives of individuals and groups. A major part of his works has been to research and develop creative projects that can impact significantly human condition and the environment. The specific approach of Issoufou Ouattara has been to use his background as a literature and education major to design and create fictional works that address global humanitarian issues. Taking a step above fiction, Issoufou Ouattara also provided a solid theoretical framework for understanding and acting for change in favor of the humanitarian causes he defends. The current project, Helping Disadvantaged Communities derives from a 500 pages book, entitled, The Pedagogy of the Mayor of K Street, which comprises nine volumes dealing with nine major issues affecting disadvantaged communities. Issoufou Ouattara is opened to invitations as a guest speaker for conferences, workshops and other relevent events.
We providing training to leaders in disadvantaged communities.
We organize theatrical performances followed by debates and invite role models to speak with the youth about the major issues of disadvantaged communities.
We provide parenting services to families and encourage them address questions and concerns regarding their children.
We can encourage a culture of peace in disadvantaged communities within families, schools and churches .
While HELPING DC hopes to start a Summer camp of its own in the future, we currently seek to collaborate with existing youth leadership programs and summers camps to educate the youth in a cheerful manner so that they can build skills and understanding about handling the issues that affect their communities.
We believe that strong families make better communities. So, our family mentorhip program helps families to cope with issues that affecting their homes and children. For this end, psychologists and other revelevent experts are selected to provide family counseling services.
We believe that the primary effort of helping disadvantaged communities is to educate the youth about the issues that plague their communities so that they can be best prepared to face them and avoid the risks that caused many young and men and women in Disadvantaged Communities to fail to have a successful future. A course design to meet the need will be delivered in schools.
